Generally one of the healthiest cat breeds with a long average life span to show for it, British Shorthairs have have a slower metabolism than most so as they get older, you should monitor their food and make sure they get enough exercise. Their dense coat does mean they need a good brushing twice a week, or even an occasional bath.
