Credentials: How to know who you're talking to

BVMS, BVM&S or BVSc:

The Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc or BVSC; Latin Baccalaureus Veterinariae Scientiae),"Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine" (BVetMed), or "Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery" ("BVM&S" or "BVMS") is a degree for studies in veterinary medicine in the United Kingdom and some other countries.

MRCVS:

Member or Fellow of the RCVS: MRCVS/FRCVS. In order to practise veterinary medicine in the UK, all vets must be registered with the RCVS. They will either have the initials MRCVS (for Member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons) or FRCVS (for Fellow of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons) after their name.

RCVS:

This stands for member, or fellow, of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS), and indicates their registration with the RCVS, the regulatory body for veterinary surgeons in the UK.

DACVIM, Dip. ACVIM, or ECVIM

These board-certified veterinarians are Diplomats of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM). These veterinarians specialising in internal medicine, which broadly encompasses the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of several conditions and diseases.

Within this area of specialty are several sub-specialties such as Dip. ACVIM in Neurology or DACVIN Neurology veterinarians specialising in diseases of the brain, spinal cord and other nervous system disorders, Dip. ACVIM in Oncology or DACVIM (Oncology), veterinarians specialising in tumours and cancer and Dip. ACVIM in Cardiology.

ECVIM stands for the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine.

DipECVO:

This stands for the Diploma of the European College of Veterinary Ophthalmology.

BCCSDip.DogBhv:

This stands for a Dog Behaviour Diploma
