How to host a cat-friendly Wimbledon viewing party

  • NUTRITION

imbledon is all about English tradition: grass courts, strawberries, cream, and thinking you’re better than everyone else for attending such a prestigious event. Tradition also dictates that it’s rude to leave loved ones, even cats, out of such festivities, so there’s only one thing to do: host a cat-friendly Wimbledon viewing party.

Whether you live in London, Bristol, Liverpool, or anywhere else where you find yourself unable to make it to Centre Court, get a few of your mates together and have your own soiree — but with cats. Their very presence guarantees the party will be a grand slam.

Almost made it over the net, but not quite.

What to Eat

For You

The classics will suffice for the humans at the party. Cucumber and cream cheese tea sandwiches will give you just enough of a taste to crave something more substantial, but ensure that you still look good in your tennis whites.

For Cat

For the most important guests, it’s worth putting in the extra effort to create tennis-themed menu items like tennis-shaped cat treats  and catnip tennis ball toys. They are quite simple to make and will be a treat the cats will definitely not forget, at least until they get hungry again.

What to Drink

For You

What is a Wimbledon-themed party without Pimm’s? This gin-based drink should have enough fruit in it to make up for the tea sandwiches. But drink responsibly, you have cats to keep an eye on.

For Cat

Cream, hold the strawberries. Obviously. Cat not keen on cream? Stock up on Catnip wine — non-alcoholic, of course — which is a great alternative and will really get the party started. Water is also essential, unless there is a rain break; in which case, be prepared for muddy paws and some whingeing.

What to Wear

For You

Tennis whites are an absolute must, and don’t forget your brolly.

For Cat

A cat in a bandana. Original.

Have your furry better-halves represent your national pride with Union Jack bandanas or neon green ones if you aren’t picking favourites.

What to Do

For You

Let the Hunger Games (and bets) begin with a Catnis (cat + tennis) inspired way to choose who will take home the big, shiny plate. Tape pictures of key players above bowls of cat food and whichever bowl is finished first is the best way to determine who the champion will be! Our bets are on Andy Murray.

For Cat

Cat activities can vary depending on the breeds you have in attendance. Maine Coons and Norwegian Forest cats will love a good game of fetch with a tennis ball, but other breeds may prefer to watch the action on television, rather than take part in it.

Hopefully, this guide has inspired you to see cats and tennis as the perfect match, and that you don’t need to actually be at Wimbledon to take part in the fun and festivities.
