West Highland White Terrier

Westies are one of the most distinctive terrier breeds, with their little black eyes and nose peering out from under bushy eyebrows in a loveable face. Possessive of their owners and highly social, they tend to be friendly and playful.

Health & Care

Westies can suffer from “westie jaw”, or craniomandibular osteopathy, which is treatable with anti-inflammatory medicine. Like other longer-haired dogs, Westies can have problems with allergic skin conditions, particularly without regular grooming.

Tip for first-time owners

Westies have hunting instincts, and early training can help develop a bond between pet parent and puppy. Left alone without training, they can become destructive, as they love to burrow and play with any toys they can find.
